Unceded Wet’suwet’en Territory
British Columbia, Canada
Liksjuon Sámiensiäbrrie stand in solidarity with our Indigenous sisters and brothers from the Unist’ot’en house of the Wet’suwet’en in their lawful resistance against colonial intrusions by the Canadian State and commercial interests on their unceded territories.
As Indigenous peoples, it is our duty to protect the Earth and care for her for our future generations, and thus we support the continued peaceful protests for environmental and human rights to land and water carried out by members of the Unist’ot’en and their allies.
We are appalled by the decision to send in militarised members of the RCMP to dismantle the camps, and urge the Canadian Government, and the Government of British Columbia to uphold internationally agreed upon and legally binding Indigenous rights, and we would like to stress that Indigenous law is the law of the land on unceded territories, and traditional title-holders have the full and undeniable right to refuse access to their lands to colonial and commercial intrusions.
We fully support the Unist’ot’en in their conviction that disregarding this ancient law in order to further expand fossil fuel production during a time of extreme climate crisis is totally unacceptable.
